== Parr City== Despite being a relatively bland city overall in appearance, the amount of things one could do in Parr City was bordering on limitless. Shops and restaurants abound, and complimented the two Gyms, the multiple Amphitheaters, the arcades, and everything else on could think of. As usual, there was a Pokemon Center, a Poke Mart, and a kiosk in front of the Pokemon Center that was not currently attended. Rather, several Trainers seemed to be gathered around something, or someone, in front of the Pokemon Center. A noisy and raucous affair that was in contrast to the more measured enjoyment of everyone else around.

Mesa walked through the city being fairly interested, but ultimately unimpressed. Parr City was known for being plain, so she cut it some slack, but Mesa couldn't help but compare it to her hometown of Skyigh City, with its high-rise buildings, modern entertainment and of course one couldn't forget the technological marvels, or the fact that it was floating in the sky. Well, plain or not, Mesa wasn't about to let that stop her from having fun.
Nearing the Pokemon Center, Mesa was surprised to see an unmanned kiosk, though the surprise left her when she saw the gathering of Trainers in front of the Pokemon Center. She turned to the other Trainers of her group. "Hey, let's check this out," and waited for a response. If she had been younger, she might have just ran off without so much as a word, but these days Mesa was more calm about these things. As she waited for a response, Mesa eyed her teammates once again. They were a disparate group for sure, with herself being augmented (though she was wearing her white jacket and black leggings which more or less hid that fact currently), the scrawny and young looking Mathis, the cute dark skinned Lily, and the smartly dressed, but somewhat average looking Matthew. Looking at her group, two things struck Mesa at once. One, she looked to be the eldest of the group by a good few years, and two, she barely knew anything about the others. Number two could be rectified soon, but number one, well, Mesa could already feel her 'motherly instincts' kicking in while looking at how thin Mathis was.

"Sure brings back memories huh?" Mathis asked, looking upwards at his Aipom. Granted, they weren't good memories. Well actually a couple of them were pleasant enough, being told his disease was in remission was at the very top of the list. Oh how often he dreamed of walking down these very streets, looking at clothing through the window and enjoying a hot, yet sweet drink during the autumn. And now he was able to do just that, and so much more. With his feet on his shoulders, and his hand firmly gripping the hat, the Monkey continued to give off the grin his species was known for as he simply stared at the crown of people. Eventually, he pushed his feet downwards and swung his tail in from of Mathis' face, making a pointing gesture at the crowd. "Aipom, its rude to point at people~" He replied, giving a small laugh as he reached up to stroke the Monkey's backside. It was just then that he noticed the crowd were all gathering around the Pokemon Center, causing Mathis a small amount of concern. "Oh that's not good..." He muttered as he held his fists against his mouth, trying to hid his lips. It was then that Mesa suggested going to see what was going on with the crowd. His head turned upward to look at her, with Aipom keeping his grip on the hat. "I don't mind checking it out, but I hope its not something bad..." He replied, giving her a small smile. He hadn't been with the group long, but he already liked the people he was with. Mesa seemed like a cool, smart person, despite her being the oldest of the bunch. Lily was just adorable, and he really liked all of the amazing bug-pokemon she had. Matthew seemed like the perfect person to be from Parr city, hopefully the two of them could be wonderful friends.

Horizon Lily reaches up as her little Ledyba, Marinette, buzzes up to her, landing in her cupped hands. "What's going on up there? It looks like people are having fun. Let's go see!"
Lily was a little lost in a city as big as this one; she was happy she had some new friends to lead her around. The two boys especially seemed to know what was up around here. Or, well, Matthew did, anyway. The pale Mathis seemed almost as entranced by all the new sights as Lily was, even as he pointed out landmarks.

In front of the Pokemon Center, at the center of the large crowd, could be seen a tall man dressed incredibly nicely, with his hands in his pockets. At his side, a Gardevoir stood, her arms wrapped around one of his. The duo seemed to be staring down another trainer, a man with a pompadour and a brutish leather jacket. He had a Krookodile at his side, and peered over his sunglasses as he assessed the tall man.
From among the spectators, several things could be heard.
"Oh my gosh! It's Valve Vlanderson! Eek," exclaimed a girl in a pink shirt. "Who is that man facing off against him anyway?" Spoke her friend.
"That man looks scary, will the Gardevoir have a chance?" Another concerned trainer asked, while his friend added onto it. "I dunno, Dark-types beat Psychic-types!"
"Marry my, Valve!" Squealed an apparent fangirl who was waving her autograph book around until she got pushed aside by a man also dressed in a leather jacket. "Yo, Joey! Beat this celebrity punk!"
Each voice connected to a different individual, all amid the raucous affair.

"Wow, these two look like they're about ready to have an intense pokemon battle! I suppose right in front of the Poke-center would be the best place for one, after all!"
Lily was excited to see how this went down. Both pokemon looked so strong, and the trainers were so confident. Not to mention how that Valve guy had great fashion sense.

Mesa looked slightly disappointed and yet excited at the same time. Truth be told, she'd been hoping there was an opportunity for her to battle someone. This was clearly not the case. However, watching two seemingly powerful Trainers duke it out was interesting too. She remembered fondly the times when she would sit on the sidelines of the Skyigh Gym to watch her friends battle challengers. Now that she thought about it though, was the middle of a crowd really the best place to battle. It seemed a little dangerous. What if a stray attack hit someone? Mesa grew slightly concerned. She decided to vocalize her concern. "It looks exciting," she first agreed with Lily, and then added, "But, I hope no one in the crowd gets hurt from a stray attack. Battling in the middle of the city like this seems a little dangerous."

Mathis couldn't help but smile after seeing Lily's bout of excitement. Aipom was also ready to see the two mons in action, judging by the way he was rocking about on his shoulders. It was strange though, he felt like he heard the name Valve Vlanderson before. After pondering for a moment, his head turned towards Mesa, who expressed some concerns about the battle taking place in the middle of the crowd. "I'm sure it'll be fine, I don't think things will get out of hand." He said, giving a small smile, despite the fact he was a tad nervous about the prospect as well. Without putting too much thought behind it, he reach around and made sure his first aid kit was firmly strapped onto the harness. "Come on, lets get a closer look~" He said to Lily before worming his way through the crowd, with the mixtures of Aipom coos and apologies coming from the duo.

Lily follows Mathis through the crowd to the best of her ability, while Marinette buzzes overhead to land in the front of the gathering. The Ledyba turns back to her Tamer and gestures as if to say "Look how easy that was. What's taking you so long?"
When the dark-skinned girl makes it through the crowd, she turns to her pokemon. "You know that's not fair. I can't fly like you."

The man, apparently named Joey, crossed his arms and smirked, his Krookodile matching his pose. "So, Valve, what's a wannabe celebrity has been like you doing in a bland city like this? I guess it does line up with you pretty well though!"
Valve replied with a calm and cool voice. "I'm here being better than you at my job. Arielle is a contest star after all! You can try and act tough, but it won't help you. Not one bit."
"Hmph!" Joey replied, "We'll see how tough you are! Krookodile, attack that Gardevoir with your Crunch attack!"
The Krookodile charged forward, ready to make an attempt at chomping on the Gardevoir. As it charged, the Gardevoir broke away from Valve and stood its ground, spreading its arms to the side. "Now, Arielle, use Protect! We'll go for a Moonblast after that!"
A glowing green shield surrounded the Gardevoir, bouncing the Krookodile off of it. "Krookodile, now, go for a Taunt to stop those Protects!"
The Krookodile issued an expression of "Come and get me!" to the Gardevoir, who seemed to fall for it as she created an orb of energy that shone like the moon itself, firing the blast at the Krookodile.
"Krookodile, Protect yourself!" The Krookodile protected itself with a black shield of energy that absorbed the blast of energy that the Gardevoir had fired, leaving both sides standing across from each other, staring the other down intensely.

Mesa had began watching with bated breath anticipating a tough match up for both Valve and the Gardevoir and Joey and the Krookodile, but had started to become slightly bored seeing the fight devolve into a Protect fest. Now, she knew this was all tactics and a battle of wits as well as strength, but it wasn't that exciting so far. At least the Taunt should serve to break up the Protects. "I hope this match gets more interesting," she remarked to her friends. "That Moonblast sure looked strong though, I guess Valve is more than just a pretty face," she had to admit.

"Yeah, go Gardevoir! Show that Crocodile who's boss!" Upon hearing that the Gardevoir was a contest star, Lily's interest was piqued, so she started cheering her on.
In the midst of all the noise, a pouch at her waist began wriggling. A small yellow head poked out. "Sew? Wadle?" Lily patted the little bug's head. "Sorry, did I wake you? It's just that there's a big 'ol battle going on right now!"

Mathis watched the battle, his mind quickly began to examine the two pokemon. One the one hand, Gardevoir had the type-advantage. But the Krookodile only needed one, maybe two solid hits to win this. Of course, this was also true for the Gadevoir. "Its likely not going to be a long battle..." He said, mostly to himself before looking up at his Aipom, who simply had a focused glare at the scene. Judging by the way the monkey was holding on, it seemed nothing short of forceful movement was gonna get his attention. With a small chuckle, he watched in anticipation of what was gonna come next.

Horizon Lily takes a closer look at this Valve Vlanderson guy while the fight was raging. If he was a contest star, maybe she had seen him perform sometime? After all, she did like watching the broadcasts, even if she had never participated before. Horizon Lilymade a General Ed Check! | D68WhnGd2d6 |

((OOC: Horizon Lily has seen him perform before, in one of those Master Rank televised specials. He's quite good, though Arielle works flawlessly with him.)) Joey smirked. "Right then, Krookodile, show this punk Gardevoir what we do when we decide to get serious!" The Krookodile confidently charged the Gardevoir, but she seemed a step ahead at Valve's instruction. "Arielle, that's his weak spot! Moonblast as he approaches you. Wait until the last second!" With a serene grace, the Gardevoir created another orb of energy akin to the moon, the blast rocketing towards the charging Krookodile, who could not change course, resulting in a swift knock out. Joey scowled as he returned his Krookodile. "You got lucky! I'll definitely win next time!" The crowd for their end cheered as Valve won, to which he gave a small and polite nod. The Gardevoir gave an elegant bow before pointing out Mesa to Valve, who raised an eyebrow quick. Disregarding Joey, who seemed to take offense at the gesture, and needed to be held back by his friends, Valve walked over to Mesa as the crowd parted for him, with his Gardevoir back at his side. He smiled. "Ahh... I've never seen such replacements for limbs before. I couldn't help but notice."It was clear he had taken an interest in her, for at least the prosthetics, if not more. His Gardevoir seemed quite curious as well judging by the look she had as her right hand went to her face, placing a finger on her mouth. "They stood out to me. Apologies if I seemed a little off putting to approach so suddenly like this. My name is Valve, and this here is Arielle. May I have the name of the lovely lady standing before me?" As he extended his hand in a method that invited her to place hers in his, he spoke with all the suave and charm of someone who wasn't even trying to be a ladies man, but it was immediately visible in the audience present, with mostly the girls, that they were swooning over him, if not getting jealous of Mesa for being special enough apparently to warrant some kind of interaction. ((OOC: Mesa can attempt a DC 10 Focus check to maintain her composure; if she would not reasonably be attracted to Valve, she gets a +6 on this check. For all of you, success on a DC 10 Perception check will reveal that, among the jealous and eager crowds, there was one individual standing towards the back who looked up to no good.))

Mesa's eyes widened as she watched the Gardevoir- Arielle's Moonblast take out the Krookodile in one hit. "Wow," she breathed. "She's either an incredibly powerful Gardevoir... or the Krookodile wasn't so strong after all. Maybe it's a bit of both," Mesa chuckled a little. "Though the Krookodile did look fairly strong, so I'm sure Arielle is just a magnificent fighter." Mesa clapped politely and cheered a little along with the crowd in response to the swift win, smiling with satisfaction at the quick, but very inspiring battle. I hope Phaedra and Hirudo will be this strong some day, she thought. Then Valve cut through the crowd and stopping right in front of her, began to address Mesa. In response to having such a handsome and clearly famous stranger talk to her, the young woman could feel a feel a blush rising up her neck and into her cheeks and even further. Stop blushing! the augmented girl commanded of herself quickly and managed to somewhat retain control of herself, though the blush remained in her cheeks. Rather than act shyly as some might have expected, Mesa instead looked up at Valve with a measured smile of interest. She wasn't quite coy, or flirty, but there was an amount of confidence to be seen as she placed her right (natural) hand in his, though her blush visibly deepened a little. She didn't look like a tomato though, and the blush only served to accentuate the fairness of her skin. "Nice to meet you Valve and Arielle. I'm Mesa. Mesa Hamilton." She looked the man straight in the eyes as she talked to him, smiling lightly though she reserved a warm smile for the Gardevoir. "Yes, my... replacements, are fairly rare, even in Skyigh City where I come from." Mesa avoided using the word 'prosthetics', it was something of a harsh word, and she didn't want to ruin the atmosphere. "I'm rather happy with them, they function much better than the original parts did."

"A Moonblast! I knew it would come down to this~" Mathis said, as he held his fists in excitement, watching with a newfound sense of glee. Fairy-types were a recent discovery, no older than a decade. And yet this type brought new dynamics, and a new threat to the power of Dragon-type Pokemon. "Hopefully one day we'll capture a fairy-type, wouldn't you think it'd be an interesting experience?" Mathis asked, looking upwards at his Aipom. As usual, the monkey's only reply was his grin and a nod before watching Value approach Mesa. From the look of things, it seemed that the man had taken an interest. Mathis's eyes lit up as it seemed like she was interested in her too. "Oh my, could this be akin to how Abigail Wendover and Miles Caverleigh felt when they met~?" He mused, not too subtlety at the pair. He did a small twirling with a clear, happy smile on his face. As he began to leave the pair alone, he felt the tugging of Aipom's tail on him. When he got his head out of the clouds. In the crowd, a man stuck out, and it was very clear that the man was up to no good. Although he knew he should grab Mesa, he didn't want to ruin the moment for them. "Alright, lets pretend we're with the crowd and move closer." He whispered to his Pokemon, before walking over to man to get a better look. Being from Parr city, he felt like he could easily blend into the ground, and be just a random kid. Mathis rolled a 14 on Perception
Mathis rolled a 19 on Intuition.
Mathis rolled a 10 on Stealth.

Lily looked on at the finale of the battle with awe. Not only were Valve and Arielle great at Contests, they were superb battlers too. Knowing this gave her even more respect for the pair - not that the Joey guy and his Krookodile weren't great too, of course!
Marinette, for her part, walked fearlessly up to the victorious gardevoir before the crowd had a chance to close in and raised one of her upper hands in the air for a high five. That battle looked great, as expected from a contest star!

The Ledyba's attempt at a high five was returned modestly, Arielle ever a picture of grace.
"It's good then that they function so well. No loss in performance is always to be celebrated."
With a smile, Valve kissed the back of her hand given. "It really was nice to meet someone like you. Skyigh City is a great place. Maybe we'll visit it again sometime, and perhaps I'll see you around. You seemed to take an interest in the battle, so maybe we'll be having a bout at that time."
--
As Mathis got closer, the man had a camera, and was dressed in clothes fitting of inspiration from a Malamar, with the unique palette proving an eyecatcher up close. He seemed to be grinning as he took pictures, a Rattata at his side.
